Ovation Academy offers exceptional training in acting, musical theatre, dance, voice, and improv for everyone, from first-time students to pre-professional artists. Train with Ovation’s experienced professionals to build confidence, strengthen your skills, express creativity, and thrive in a fun, supportive community.

All classes conclude with a 15-minute showcase where students share what they’ve learned with family and friends.

Kids of Broadway

LET’S SING BROADWAY

SEPTEMBER 14 – NOVEMBER 23 | MONDAY 4:45 – 5:45PM

This class is designed for young singers who want to build confidence and have fun singing! Students will learn foundational skills such as proper vocal warm-ups, stage presence, and lyric memorizing. This is a great prep class for Broadway Voice or a Broadway Academy Show. By the end of the class, they’ll feel confident singing in front of an audience and enjoying music with friends!

Music, Movement & Storytelling: Beauty and the Beast

SEPTEMBER 8 – NOVEMBER 17 | TUESDAYS 3:45 – 4:45 PM

Be our guest for a magical musical theater adventure! This Beauty and the Beast-inspired class invites budding stars to explore the fundamentals of musical theater through the enchanting world of Disney’s beloved classic. Young performers will learn memorable songs from the show while building skills in singing, movement, and storytelling. Through engaging character exploration and imaginative scene work, students will bring to life beloved characters like Belle, the Beast, Lumière, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and the enchanted castle’s magical inhabitants. Perfect for beginning performers who want to build confidence, spark their creativity, and discover the timeless magic of musical theater in a tale as old as time.

Let your inner-star shine through in this introductory exploration of musical theater! This beginner class will cover all aspects of musical theater from choreography, scene work, and musical storytelling through popular, age-appropriate Broadway selections. Students will gain a deeper appreciation for musical theater, as well as expand their repertoire. This class is perfect for your budding star who wants to discover what it takes to be on Broadway!

ACTING I: Adventures and FUNdamentals

This exciting entry level acting class focuses on giving young performers the CONFIDENCE to grip an audience and the SKILLS to captivate. Students will become more spontaneous, creative, playful and imaginative, all while developing valuable theater and interpersonal skills. Learn theater terminology, explore short scenes and monologues, and find out why it is called a “play”!

BROADWAY DANCE I: Jazz + Tap

SEPTEMBER 8 – NOVEMBER 17 | TUESDAYS 5:15 – 6:15 PM

Chassé and shuffle your way to Broadway! This exciting introduction to jazz and tap helps young performers build the essential dance skills used in musical theater. Students spend each week developing rhythm, coordination, confidence, and strong foundational technique. Through beginner-friendly exercises, classic and contemporary Broadway combinations, and storytelling through movement, dancers will learn basic terminology, physical musicality, and level-appropriate choreography in a fun, supportive, and high-energy environment. Perfect for aspiring triple threats and the ideal first step into the world of Broadway dance!

TAP 1.5

SEPTEMBER 8 – NOVEMBER 17 | TUESDAYS 6:30 – 7:30PM

This rhythmic class explores the history and fundamentals of tap dancing. Young performers will explore foundational tap skills including rhythms, beats, and physical musicality, all in a supportive, high-energy environment! This multi–level class is perfect for students who have minimal tap experience. Whether it’s your first Tap class, or you’re honing in on the fundamentals before progressing to Tap II, this class will meet each student where they are. See you in class!

This explorative class is perfect for young performers who have completed Acting I and are ready to build on their skills at a comfortable pace. Students continue learning the foundations of acting while strengthening improv, character work, and ensemble collaboration. Through fun, imaginative exercises, they adventure into imaginary worlds, bring stories to life, and gain the confidence and technique needed to prepare for Acting II.

Sing, harmonize, and bring your favorite songs to life! In this technique-focused class, young performers build confidence and develop the skills needed to tackle any style of music. Through a variety of age-appropriate Broadway songs, students learn proper breathing and vocal techniques, explore basic music theory, practice Solfege, are introduced to sight-reading, and work on two-part harmonies—all in a fun, supportive environment.

DANCE TECHNIQUE: Jazz & Ballet

This combination Jazz & Ballet class is geared toward students who are advanced beginner level dancers. Young performers will explore foundational dance skills for both Jazz and Ballet, including technique, various jumps, leaps, turns, body positions, terminology, and short combinations for both Ballet and Jazz. This class serves as the perfect technique training to accompany or prepare for an Academy Performance!

Unleash your creativity and charisma in this high-energy ensemble-based class. Learn the ins and outs of improvisation and grow as an actor by developing skills in collaboration, spontaneity, and listening to your fellow performers on stage. Improv is an essential acting skill—these fast-paced games and exercises sharpen instincts, boost confidence, and elevate every aspect of your performance.The perfect class for young aspiring actors ready to expand their theatrical skills!

Take your singing to the next level! Building on the skills learned in Broadway Voice I, this intermediate class, students expand their vocal range, strengthen technique, and refine expression and performance skills. Through solo and ensemble work, they explore challenging Broadway repertoire, deepen their understanding of breath control, pitch, tone, and dynamics, and continue developing solfege, sight-reading, and harmony skills—all while building confidence and stage presence in a supportive, high-energy environment.

Train like an athlete! This specialty class will focus specifically on intermediate to advanced level technical skills and teach students how to train and condition safely for optimal performance. Highly recommended for Company members and those who are interested in higher level dance education and performance.

Get ready to move, groove, and express yourself! This high-energy class introduces students to the fundamentals of hip-hop dance while exploring a variety of styles, including old-school, commercial, street jazz, and contemporary hip-hop. Dancers will build a strong foundation in rhythm, musicality, coordination, footwork, grooves, and performance quality while developing confidence and personal style. Whether new to dance or looking to expand your skills, or polish your tik-tok dances, this class provides a fun, supportive environment where dancers can learn and grow!

Musical Theater for Grownups

SEPTEMBER 14 – NOVEMBER 23 | MONDAYS 7:30PM

Move over kids, it’s time for the grownups to take the stage! Choose numbers from your favorite Broadway musicals to work on with your fellow musical theater-lovers, incorporating choreography, character development, and vocal harmonies. Culminates in a cabaret-style showcase for friends and family. All levels welcome.

Adult Broadway Dance

SEPTEMBER 8 – NOVEMBER 17 | TUESDAYS 8:15 – 9:15PM

This is an 8 week, high energy multi-level class. Whether you have previous dance training or are excited to learn new skills, get some exercise, and socialize with fellow musical theater fans, you will love this casual Broadway-style dance class. Learn the basic steps that go into Broadway choreography, and rehearse fun combos to upbeat showtunes. Culminates in a final showcase for friends and family. Beginners welcome!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Where do classes take place?

A: Ovation now has two locations: the Madison Street Theater at 1010 Madison St in Oak Park; and Ovation Studio at 7419 Madison Street, Forest Park. The locations are 1/2 mile away from one another on Madison Street. The location of each class is indicated in the registration window.

Q: Who is teaching my child’s class?

A: Visit our Staff Page for photos and bios of our amazing staff!

Q: What happens if I miss a class?

A: We do not offer make-up classes, but your child can book a private lesson with an instructor to make up missed content, or simply catch up upon their return.

Q: How does the payment plan option work?

A: 50% of tuition is due at time of enrollment. The remaining balance will be charged via two auto-payments during the first 4 weeks of rehearsals. You can pay your balance in full at any time using your Parent Portal. Please inquire about Scholarships and Work Study opportunities by emailing teamovation@ovationacademy.org

Q: When is the final showcase?

A: Final showcases take place on the last day of class, during the last 15 minutes of the class session. Families are welcome to join.
