Hadestown: Teen Edition

This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

Encore Summer Program is a pre-professional, two-week intensive designed for motivated high school students and college freshmen seeking rigorous training in a real-world theatrical environment. Participants will work at an accelerated pace that mirrors professional rehearsal and performance standards, gaining firsthand experience in discipline, collaboration, and artistic accountability.

Throughout the intensive, students will deepen their skills in character development, vocal performance, movement, ensemble work, and storytelling while learning how professional productions are built from the ground up. Emphasis is placed on rehearsal etiquette, time management, preparedness, and adaptability—core expectations of working artists. Students will learn how to take direction efficiently, integrate feedback, and sustain performance quality under pressure, all while working alongside peers who share a high level of commitment and focus.

Auditions are in June to cast roles. Once cast, actors are expected to approach the process with professional responsibility:

  • All actors must be fully off book by July 9

  • All main characters must be off book for June pre-camp rehearsals

These expectations are intentional and reflective of industry standards, allowing rehearsal time to focus on depth, nuance, ensemble cohesion, and performance refinement rather than line memorization. By the end of the program, participants will leave with sharpened technical skills, increased confidence, and a clear understanding of what is required to succeed in a professional or conservatory-level theatrical setting.
