SUMMER AEBKER

Summer Aebker has a D.M. in voice performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she was a former associate instructor and a student of Costanza Cuccaro-Penhorwood and Carol Vaness. She has performed for IU New Music Ensemble as a guest artist and she has been a guest soloist with Columbus Ohio Discovery Ensemble (CODE).

Other performances include the role of Mrs. Patrick DeRocher in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking and the role of Sardula in Carlo Menotti’s The Last Savage, both productions of Indiana University Opera Theater. She has also been a guest soprano for the Indiana University New Music Ensemble in Yie-Eun Chun’s Read My Riddle! for Soprano and Sinfonietta and sang the soprano solo for a performance of Andreas Foivos Apostolou’s De Rerum Natura. She earned her M.M. in voice performance from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) studying under Myra Merritt. While there, she performed the roles of Iöle in Hercules, Phyllis in Iolanthe, and was a guest artist for the Bowling Green Philharmonia and Wolfe Center Gala Opening. Her B.M. in voice performance is from the Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music (CCM).

Additionally, Dr. Aebker was a lecturer of music at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, where she performed in various faculty recitals and taught lessons to musical theater and music education majors. She was also an associate at Bowling Green State University where she taught undergraduate and graduate students who went on to win competitions and earn positions in internationally recognized summer programs. Dr. Aebker also has extensive experience working with k-12 populations; she has prepared students for solo and ensemble, adjudicated for the Ohio Music Education Association, worked as a vocal assistant and accompanist in school systems, and has been a private teacher for the last 20 + years. She is very adept at preparing students for local and school theatrical productions, talent shows, competitions, auditioned summer programs, and college auditions. Many of her students earn roles and win outstanding recognition for their work. She also is a professional pianist, having accompanied competition middle school and high school choirs, church choirs and other collaborative performances.
