AKEILA SHARP

Akeila Sharp was born and raised on the West Side of Chicago and has also spent several years living in both Upstate New York and Central Florida. During her time in these diverse communities, she grew and evolved as a performer, educator, and individual, shaping her into the well-rounded and compassionate artist she is today. Akeila’s passion for dance started at the age of five, and through the years, she developed a solid foundation in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and African American Stepping. Tap and Step are her favorite styles.

With over a decade of teaching experience, and two Master’s degrees, one in Dance/Movement Therapy and another in Social-Emotional Learning, Mindfulness, and Yoga. Akeila brings a unique approach to the classroom. She fosters a supportive and nurturing environment, where students not only learn the technical aspects of dance but also gain skills to grow emotionally and socially.

Akeila’s teaching philosophy is rooted in leading with love and compassion. She is deeply committed to helping her students build autonomy, independence, and confidence both in and outside of the studio. Her classes focus on developing the whole dancer—encouraging self-expression, creativity, and a sense of community. For Akeila, the best part of teaching is sharing her passion for the arts and being a mentor and guide for her students. Akeila’s joy in teaching comes from being a constant source of support for her students, watching them flourish not just as dancers, but as confident, resilient individuals.

In her free time, Akeila enjoys challenging herself with new hobbies, exploring puzzles and board games, and trying new foods.
