Fall Classes

Ovation Academy classes are designed to help students build new musical theater skills, develop their confidence as performers, make friends, and of course, HAVE FUN! No experience is necessary except where indicated.

All classes culminate in a 15-minute showcase for friends and family during the last day of class.

Classes take place at our brand new Ovation Studio Space, 7419 Madison Street, Forest Park.

INTRO TO MUSICAL THEATER CLASSES

Kids of Broadway

BROADWAY KIDS

SEPTEMBER 9 – NOVEMBER 18 | TUESDAYS 3:30 – 4:30PM

Let your little star shine on the big stage in this introductory exploration of musical theater! Through the pages of Broadway’s greatest kid-friendly hits, young performers will sing and dance to new numbers each week. Students will be inspired to unleash their imaginations, take bold risks, and develop their passion for musical theater!

Frozen

Music, Movement & Storytelling: THE LION KING

SEPTEMBER 11 – NOVEMBER 20 | THURSDAYS 3:30PM – 4:30PM

In this class students will learn all about musical theater through the lens of one show: Disney’s The Lion King. Each week we’ll learn songs and dances from the musical, and our final showcase will be a mini version of the show. Kids will experience the joy of putting on a musical together, miniaturized and with an extra dose of FUN!

ACTING CLASSES

ACTING I: INTRO TO ACTING

SEPTEMBER 10 – NOVEMBER 19 | WEDNESDAYS 4:00 – 5:00PM

This beginner class will teach budding actors all about putting on a show. They’ll learn key terms like “upstage” and “cold reading” and explore how a script is brought to life on stage. Through a variety of games and exercises, young performers will explore characters and scenes, and begin their acting journey in a supportive environment.

ACTING II: FUNdamentals

SEPTEMBER 10 – NOVEMBER 19 | WEDNESDAYS 5:00 – 6:00PM

With the basics established, students will delve deeper into character development and storytelling. Learn to incorporate a character’s backstory as you bring them to life on stage, and perform a variety of fun scenes with your fellow students. We’ll even create our own scenes and incorporate them into the final showcase.

IMPROV FOR ACTORS

SEPTEMBER 10 – NOVEMBER 19 | WEDNESDAYS 6:00 – 7:00PM

One of the most important skills for an aspiring actor to master is the ability to think quickly on their feet. Through a variety of games and exercises, students will learn how to react in the moment to fellow performers, generate ideas on the fly, and develop their stage presence. Become a better actor, all while laughing and having a blast with your classmates!

ACTING THROUGH SONG

SEPTEMBER 12 – NOVEMBER 21 | FRIDAYS 5:00 – 6:00 PM

Musical theater requires a careful balance between singing, dancing, and acting. This class will teach advanced performers techniques for telling compelling stories and portraying characters using song. Taught by experienced Broadway performer Jacob Simon.

SINGING CLASSES

LET’S SING BROADWAY!

SEPTEMBER 8 – NOVEMBER 17 | MONDAYS 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Does your child just LOVE to sing? Learn lots of fun songs and how to perform them confidently for an audience in this beginner singing class. Learn how to warm up your voice, match the correct notes, and sing together with friends.

BROADWAY VOICE I

SEPTEMBER 7 – NOVEMBER 16 | SUNDAYS 2:00 – 3:00 PM

Sing and harmonize your way to Broadway! Through a variety of group songs and solos from favorite musicals, students will explore proper breathing, vocal technique, and storytelling through song. Class introduces music theory, singing harmonies and confidently delivering solos.

For more experienced singers, this class well delve deeper into music theory, proper breathing and vocal technique, and tricky harmonies. Master challenging music and go into your next audition prepared with songs that fit YOUR unique voice.

BROADWAY DANCE I

SEPTEMBER 11 – NOVEMBER 20| THURSDAYS 6:00PM – 7:00PM

Students will explore various dance forms; learning how to tell a story through movement and execute choreography of all levels. Each week, students will experience new choreography, dance styles and make exciting additions to their personal dance repertoire.

BALLET FOR BROADWAY

SEPTEMBER 12 – NOVEMBER 21 | FRIDAYS 4:00 – 5:00PM

Designed for the musical theater performer, this class will introduce basic ballet technique and help students build a solid dance foundation. Infuse your Broadway dance choreography with the essential physical vocabulary you need to confidently approach many different styles of dance.

Tap lesson

TAP I

SEPTEMBER 7 – NOVEMBER 16 | SUNDAYS 10:00 – 11:00AM
Tap shoes required.

This class is perfect for beginners, as well as those who have taken some tap and would like to continue to improve. Students will learn basic tap technique and put together simple tap combinations. Learn about the history and cultural significance of tap while developing essential skills for any aspiring musical theater performer.

ADULT CLASSES

Musical Theater for Grownups

SEPTEMBER 8 – NOVEMBER 17 | MONDAYS 7:30 – 9:00PM

Move over kids, it’s time for the grownups to take the stage! Choose numbers from your favorite Broadway musicals to work on with your fellow theater-lovers, incorporating choreography, character development, and vocal harmonies.

Adult Broadway Dance

SEPTEMBER 10 – NOVEMBER 19 | WEDNESDAYS 7:30 – 8:30PM

Learn new skills, get some exercise, and socialize with fellow musical theater fans in this casual Broadway-style dance class. Learn the basic steps that go into Broadway choreography, and rehearse fun combos to upbeat showtunes. Culminates in a final showcase for friends and family.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Where do classes take place?

A: Ovation now has two locations: the Madison Street Theater at 1010 Madison St in Oak Park; and Ovation Studio at 7419 Madison Street, Forest Park. The locations are 1/2 mile away from one another on Madison Street. The location of each class is indicated in the registration window.

Q: Who is teaching my child’s class?

A: Visit our Staff Page for photos and bios of our amazing staff!

Q: What happens if I miss a class?

A: We do not offer make-up classes, but your child can book a private lesson with an instructor to make up missed content, or simply catch up upon their return.

Q: How does the payment plan option work?

A: If you indicate “Yes” when asked if you’d like to opt in to our payment plan, you will be charged 25% of the tuition up front, and the remaining balance in 3 equal portions until it is paid off. Charges are usually processed on the 1st and 15th of each month.

Q: If I’m unsure what level my child is ready for, how do I decide?

A: Reach out to our staff and we will help you determine the best class for your child.

**

Q: When is the final showcase?

A: Final showcases take place on the last day of class, during the last 15 minutes of the class session. Families are welcome to join.
